The Troop committee has been busy this summer. Vice Chairman (Finance) Neil Bonner has built a new Troop website. The technology is based on WordPress. Most people associated WordPress with blogging software but recent enhancements to the WordPress system has made it a fully functional web content management system.
This means that several adult leaders can perform updates directly themselves without any assistance from a “webmaster”. Power to the people! Leaders can also directly update the online calendar as new meetings and activities crop up.

The Venture Patrol is selling Christmas Wreaths and other holiday greenery to raise money for their 2009 Northern Tier High Adventure.
Neil Bonner will demonstrate how easy it is to update the new Troop website.
This summer, the Venture Crew participated in the Camp Rodney Outdoor Challenge.
The bike outing for this weekend, Nov 15-16 is rescheduled to November 22-23; same routes, same campsite.
The schedule change is due to safety/inclement weather forecast for this weekend esp. the near certainty of rain, wind, possible flooding along the bike route and camping area.
Please email Rob Wallace (r3wallace@comcast.net) if you would like to go on the rescheduled outing.

Your Troop will have a small display area set aside for you to showcase your unit, it\’s program, plans and achievements. We will have the church open at 6:30PM for set-up, so look for your name on the wall in the hall. Please bring items like Troop flyers, newsletters, contact sheets, and other materials that highlight the excellence of your unit and program.
This outing consists of bike rides of various lengths (see permission schedule) on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Park (C&O) towpath, overnight camping at the canal or battlefield campsites at Antietam, Maryland, and Scout Activities. Some Scouts may choose activities (camping only) which do not include biking. The troop will operate two trailers to transport bikes to the departure points.
I am very pleased to announce another new Eagle in Troop 1970: Andrew L. Please join me in congratulating Andrew. We had a fun time a Camp Rodney this summer. The first year scouts knocked off many requirements, and most of them advanced in rank. The others will be ready to advance in September when we start meeting again. The other scouts earned a large pile of merit badges. Please join us on October 6th at the Court of Honor to celebrate their success.
In December 2007 the troop traveled to Prince William Forest for their “Wilderness Survival” camping weekend. The troop practiced wilderness survival techniques and survival strategies for staying alive in the wilderness. One of the most enjoyable activities was the construction of “debris shelters”. Several scouts spent the night sleeping in their shelters. This proved to be one of the most enjoyable camping trips of the year. Photos by Neil Bonner.
