The Venture Crew for 2006 visited Siler Country Store, located in the Siler community, north of Gainesboro on Brush Creek and Siler roads. The store fills a need for people passing through or who live in that remote section of Frederick County. The backpackers enjoyed fair, but cool weather for their weekend trek. Ian has found a friend.

The venture crew selected a campsite with a nice view. The crew's backpacking weekend featured a hike on a portion of the Tuscarora Trail. The hike included a visit to the Siler Store. Robert is smiling because he has reached the crew's objective of the day. There will be no more hiking until the next morning.

The crew took a moment to pose for a photo shot just before they set up their tents. Crew members were using the Troop 1970 backpacking tents for the first time. These tents are lighter in weight than the regular outing tents used by the troop. Robert and Crew Chief Ryan are setting up their tents. Setup was more challenging than the non backing tents used by the troop.

Ian is putting the finishing touches on his tent. With their tent set up it is time to think about dinner. Sunday morning was cool, but dry with no condensation on the tents.

Breakfast setup included getting a backpacking stove going. Crew Chief Ryan starts up the stove while his crew members look on. Sunday morning the crew left their campsite on "Morning Sun Farm" as they hiked 2.4 miles to the Siler Store and the drive home after a successful backpacking trek.

The Troop 1970 Venture Crew for 2006 is one step closer to their Lenhok'sin High Adventure this summer at Goshen Scout Camp. Congratulations scouts! Thank you to Scouters, Tom and Bill!
